We went on a little adventure today, visiting the nearby town of Bucerias. We intended to take the bus but were given conflicting information about how to do that so decided to be lazy and took an Uber which worked out perfectly.
There were four things we wanted to do. Find some nice mugs, get some decorated tiles to use as coasters, find cheap sunscreen and have lunch at a small local place. We were moderately successful, and enjoyed just poking around Bucerias despite it being a much warmer day than we had expected.

There is an area of town devoted to little shops that we poked through looking for mugs. We looked in many places and ended up coming back to one of the first vendors we were in. The mugs were appropriate, looking like what we think of as Mexican style mugs, and he was willing to sell at a reasonable price.

Unfortunately we didn’t have any success finding tiles to use as coasters. We bought my Aunt Ruth a decorated tile years ago in Puerto Vallarta to use where she sits in the condo, and we wanted to get more, but no luck.

Sunscreen may seem like a silly thing to be looking for but it is typically quite expensive here and we have looked in many stores but the prices are around $300 pesos ($24) for small bottles. When we were in Bucerias several years ago we happened upon an alley with a table of assorted sunscreens at very low prices. Probably they had fallen off a truck and it seemed like a sketchy transaction, but we hoped to get lucky again. Unfortunately not, although we did find a pharmacy with a better price than we’d seen anywhere else. Next time we’ll know to bring more when we travel.
Lunch was a success, finding a small hole in the wall place a block from the beach. There were two tables on the street and a couple of chairs inside. For $60 pesos ($5) we had a large Torta Cubana that was fresh and delicious. When we were staying at Vidanta a few weeks ago there was a Cuban sandwich on the beach menu that we were tempted to order but it was over $300 pesos so we didn’t. I’m sure it wasn’t anywhere near as good as the one we had today.

Hi Wendy, glad you got to bucerias. I had purchased my sunscreen either
