It appears we used up all our good weather on the first day. Today was rainy most of the time, rainy and foggy the rest of the time, with very brief dry periods. We have good rain coats with us, but didn’t actually have them on during the heavy rain. We will learn! Our firstContinue reading “Gaspe Pensinsula Day 2”

Gaspe Pensinsula
On the road again! Glad to be on the road again. (apologies to Willie Nelson) Today was a beautiful day to start a road trip. The goal was to make it from Ancaster, Ontario to Trois Rivieres, Quebec so really just a heavy driving day. However we did manage a few highlights. Our first stopContinue reading “Gaspe Pensinsula”
Canadian phones in Mexico
Canada is known to have very high cost cell phone plans. We are quite used to paying close to $100 a month for cell phone plans that include unlimited calling, texting and enough data to meet our needs. Coverage is typically good for these full service plans and it’s hard to imagine not having goodContinue reading “Canadian phones in Mexico”
2022. It’s been quite a year!
2022 is almost over. It has been quite a year Lots of things happened but the biggest and best was definitely the birth of my sweet little granddaughter Astrid. I wish she lived closer, and in the same country, but I’ve been able to see her several times and am amazed how quickly she changes.Continue reading “2022. It’s been quite a year!”
Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum
A visit to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum really doesn’t count as much of a wander as it is only 8 km from home, but it is a pretty cool place to visit. Today was SkyFest, with various visiting aircraft to augment the usual impressive collection of planes, as part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations.Continue reading “Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum”
The final stretch home from Sault Ste. Marie
The final part of the drive was long, even though we broke it up by taking the ferry again, from South Baymouth on Manitoulin Island to Tobermory. This time we could actually see the islands and the great expanse of Georgian Bay as there was no fog, although we could see rain off in theContinue reading “The final stretch home from Sault Ste. Marie”
Back to the Sault, almost home
Wildlife sightings on this trip include 2 bears, a fox, 4 deer and today a MOOSE. Right at the side of the TransCanada Highway near Terrace Bay there was a moose in the brush. We knew not to get out of the car and just watch carefully, and the moose was not the least bitContinue reading “Back to the Sault, almost home”
Heading home via Lake Nipigon
Our luck continues with many things. Today a deer sauntered across the TransCanada highway in front of us, and we saw a bear watching us from the side of the highway. Good sightings and no collisions. No pictures either, but I was busy driving. Plus we have had very little rain on this trip, andContinue reading “Heading home via Lake Nipigon”
Last day in Thunder Bay
Today we headed out to see Sleeping Giant Provincial Park and do some backroads excursions. We have had many magnificent views of the Giant across the bay from here but hadn’t ventured out to the peninsula to explore the park. On entering the park we were greeted by a deer at the side of theContinue reading “Last day in Thunder Bay”
Thunder Bay, Ontario
Mount McKay is a scenic lookout over Thunder Bay, on Fort Williams First Nations land. The view over Thunder Bay is spectacular, but so is the mafic sill itself (apparently this is what it is called). Fort Williams National Historic Site is a key reason I wanted to come to Thunder Bay. It turns outContinue reading “Thunder Bay, Ontario”
