Daylight Savings time, Nuevo Vallarta

Mexico is smart enough to have stopped changing their clocks. In October 2022 they adopted permanent standard time in almost all of the country. Only a few places, typically those near the US border, still change their clocks.

It was very nice not to have to deal with the time change last night. I certainly wish Canada would follow suit. Saskatchewan already doesn’t change, and several provinces including Ontario have legislation in place to stop DST but seem to be looking to the US before doing anything. Waiting for the US to implement anything is hopeless, so it would be wonderful if we just went ahead and stopped adjusting the clocks. Everyone agrees the time change is a stupid thing to do, but no one will actually do anything about it. I read in the Canadian History Ehx blog that Thunder Bay was the first city to adopt DST, so let’s go Thunder Bay and stop it already!

In our case we were actively checking on whether the time changes here as it would affect our flights home in a few days. Arriving at the airport one hour later than we thought would be bad, although we are typically so early we’d probably still be fine. The worst thing I ever saw, though, was a large family with a full baggage rack checking in for their flight to Israel, only to be told I’m sorry sir but your reservation was for yesterday’s flight. I couldn’t imagine how awful the rest of that conversation must have been.
