Playa Royale, Nuevo Vallarta

We moved from Hard Rock, the all inclusive resort, to Playa Royale yesterday. Playa Royale was Ruth and Ken’s fractional ownership condo for more than 20 years, and we have enjoyed many visits with them here.

Last year we spent a wonderful month here with Ruth and my brother Ken and his wife Anne. During that visit Ruth started the process to transfer the condo to me, so that I could take over the administration and booking, but she would continue to come down for many more years. So it’s been pretty tough walking in, unpacking the locker, sorting through her things, setting everything up and not having her sitting here directing the operations. But her presence is felt in everything we do here.

When we did the grocery shopping today at Mega we followed the routine she had established and bought the foods she introduced us to. Probably we bought enough to feed her too, judging by the full cab on the way back and 3 carts it took to get the food upstairs to the condo. We’re hoping not to have to go again, and just supplement with fresh items from the local market, so we can spend our time on the beach and by the pool.

Fully stocked frig. Hoping to avoid another trip during our 4 weeks

Right now we’re preparing for our traditional sunset routine, with snacks on the balcony followed by dinner. It’s a perfect spot to watch the sunset and hope to see the elusive green flash on the horizon. Last night’s sunset food was quite pathetic as we only had a few crackers left over from our travels. Tonight we had fresh guacamole and the good Mexican Totopos which we much prefer to the tortilla chips we get at home.
