Gaspe Pensinsula Day 9

It rained steadily for the first 6 hours of the trip today. But if it’s going to rain, it might as well be while we’re driving. By the time we crossed into Ontario the rain stopped so we did a couple of excursions off the highway.

The first was The Lost Villages Museum, which was put together by the local Historical Society to reflect the villages flooded in 1958 to accommodate the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The museum consists of 10 historical buildings moved to this location plus numerous artifacts. The Historical Society has preserved an old school, a church, a general store, a train station, blacksmith’s shop, corn crib, and even a house that had been in the same family from 1810 to 2003.

Our second stop was at Crysler’s Farm which is a designated Historical Site due to its importance in the War of 1812. Here the British Army defeated a much larger American invasion force, helping turn back the troops headed to Montreal in 1813. Today it mostly was providing a resting spot for large flocks of Canada Geese.
