The weather turned out surprisingly well which was fortunate as we had several outdoor activities planned.
Our first stop was to see some unusual sculptures at the Marcel Gagnon gallery in St. Flavie which depict people emerging from the river. It was low tide so we hope to have high tide on the way back and get a completely different perspective.

Our next stop was in Metis to see the Reford Gardens, a project started in 1926 by a lady in her 50s who transformed an inherited estate into acres of English garden in the Gaspe Pensinsula. Paths meander through woods and along streams and gardens, with over 3,000 varieties of plants.

From England we travelled to Tuscany visiting the Vignoble Carpinteri where Italian wines are produced from grapes grown on site including in a greenhouse. If you enjoy fine dining, there is a two year waiting list to dine at the villa with the owner, savouring course after course all evening and partaking of his wines. We found this when we met the owner having walked into his house rather than the tasting room and store. He was quite charming about it.

As we drove along the coast the scenery changed from flat farm land near the river to trees and hills, and eventually cliffs that came down right to the water’s edge. We had calm and mostly dry conditions, which we were grateful for as we frequently saw a road sign we had never seen before. It showed a wave cresting and a tipping car, clearly implying the waves could come over the breakwater and knock your car off the road. Fun.
