Wildlife sightings on this trip include 2 bears, a fox, 4 deer and today a MOOSE. Right at the side of the TransCanada Highway near Terrace Bay there was a moose in the brush. We knew not to get out of the car and just watch carefully, and the moose was not the least bit perturbed by the traffic along the road, but we were still glad to be on the opposite side.

After this bit of excitement we had some great roadside views and from the beach at Marathon that included little bits of Pic Island, which was painted by Lawren Harris of the Group of Seven.

Marathon has a pebble beach with multi coloured, very smooth stones of various sizes. I wouldn’t suggest lounging on the beach but it is a spectacular sight.

In Wawa we were introduced to a food we have never heard of before, a Potato tornado, which is spiralled and put on a stick, then cooked and seasoned like potato chips. Fun!

Magpie Scenic High Falls near Wawa were worth diverting down a long dirt road to see. The route is well marked, unlike other falls we have tried to see, and is one of the best.

After that it was on to Sault Ste. Marie, stopping for apple fritters in Batchawana Bay of course. This time there is some activity in the harbour with ships going through the locks, so the season is starting.
