Lake Superior

What a day. It started with seeing a black bear run across the TransCanada highway in front of us (at a safe stopping distance) just outside Sault Ste. Marie and ended with an amazing waterfalls and gorge near Terrace Bay. In between were several other waterfalls, gorgeous sandy beaches, First Nations pictographs, Group of Seven views of Lake Superior, warm apple fritters, and many miles of boring wet highway but that was when it chose to rain so we considered ourselves pretty lucky.

The Agawa Rock pictographs are quite an experience to see. But the trek is not for the faint of heart. When they tell you to be careful and that the path is steep and rocky, they are not kidding. And when you finally make it down to the water be prepared to scramble out to the cliff face holding onto ropes and chains for support. Thank heavens it was a clear calm day so no worries about waves crashing on the rocks.

Aguasabon Falls and gorge near Terrace Bay. Absolutely incredible display of the power of water, heading out to Lake Superior
