A day at the beach

Today was relaxing but filled with interesting moments. I saw more iguanas in one day than I have since I arrived. There were iguanas on the patio around the pool, in the lawn, up the trees and on the fence. And one darted under my lounge chair by the pool. I am not sure who was more startled. Certainly not something that would happen at home.

Last Sunday we had lunch on the beach as we were weary and needed sustenance. Today we ate at the same place but we were relaxed and content to wait patiently for our food, watching the people around us come and go, and listening to the waves crashing. I had the Club Especial which was one of their many choices of ceviche. It was an delicious mixture of shrimp, tuna and mango in a slighly spicy sauce. Not something I would ever expect to get at home but certainly a highlight of my meals so far.

Each day they post the wave conditions along the beach, with a green, yellow or red flag depending on the intensity of the surf, to give warning to everyone going in the waves. We have never seen it posted green, and it is often red implying dangerous conditions. The posting never seems to have much effect on the number of people playing in the waves, and Ken and I go in regardless. Today the flags were red and deservedly so, as the waves were relentless, crashing into us and bowling us over, stripping our hats from our heads. After much fun we came in, feeling as though we had quite the workout. Our next swim was in the pool, which was much less exciting!
